Pope: War is a defeat for mankind

Departing from the previously prepared text, Francis returned to share his reflections on his visit to the military cemeteries of the First and Second World Wars. He stressed that these places should be a school of life for us. Meanwhile, humanity remains oriented towards destruction, devoting its greatest resources to weapons. Instead, the Church proclaims the peace that the Lord Jesus promised His disciples.

“Such a peace not only goes beyond what we can achieve by purely human means, but challenges us not to rely solely on the balance of power or suppress the legitimate demands of the least fortunate. Nevertheless, peace among people is an essential good , for which one must earnestly strive and earnestly pray to God for them (…) War is terrible However, we must not give up: from the ashes what we see today, something new can grow, from this defeat we can learn a life lesson.(… ) And what appears to be our defeat and disgrace can, like the scandal of the cross, become a victory. What if through our prayers and work, we are able to provide solutions, unite wills, become witnesses that love, brotherhood and true humanism are born from faith, defeat hatred, rejection and brutality.
