The County Council in Jasło and the Jasło Commune adopted a resolution expressing support for activities aimed at obtaining compensation and compensation for the losses suffered by Poland as a result of the German attack and subsequent occupation of Jasło County.

At the end of September, the District Council in Jasło unanimously adopted a declaration regarding war reparations from Germany. However, councilor Jan Urban drew attention to the fact that the resolution should be of concern to all MEPs representing the country, while only MEP Bogdan Rzońca was singled out in the project. – With all due respect, this is a huge misunderstanding. This was a mistake for me in terms of this project idea – Councilman Urban said. – Let’s not make this into a political matter. Let’s demand compensation, but not in a strange form – added.

Jasło star Adam Pawluś explains this by the fact that MEP B. Rzońca represents the Jasło region, and he also organized two exhibitions in Brussels devoted to the removal and destruction of Jasło. – I think he is the best advocate in this regard, because the losses in Jasło were huge and he had the opportunity to reach many members of the European parliament. There is nothing to stop others from bringing up this topic. This is not a political issue, so it should not be confused with elections. think. Council Member Krzysztof Buba called for adding to the resolution that the contents of the declaration will also be forwarded to other Members of the European Parliament representing the Republic of Poland. The document will also be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A conference on this topic was also held at the District Office in Jasło. The meeting was attended by, among others: MEP Bogdan Rzońca, MP Maria Kurowska, mayor of Jasło commune and Mariusz Świątek, director of the Regional Museum in Jasło. County Council Chairman Robert Snoch read the statement in full. Mayor of the Jasło Commune emphasized that the Commune Council also adopted a resolution stating that they expect the government to firmly carry out diplomatic activities aimed at obtaining appropriate compensation from the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. – The position was adopted unanimously and forwarded to Warsaw so that the government would feel our support. The local government supports this activity. Seeing what happened during the war, and perhaps even after the war ended, our commune, the closest to Jasło, suffered as much as the residents of Jasło. The destruction caused by the war on Germany is irreparable and we are still touching it – said Wojciech Piękoś.

MEP Bogdan Rzońca recalled that, as a member of parliament, he worked in a parliamentary team to estimate the amount of compensation Poland should pay to Germany for the damage caused during World War II.

– We worked on what Poland expected from Germany, but we also managed to include important documents regarding the destruction of Jasło and in the publication, which may be available to the public, you can find several pages devoted to the destruction of Jasło. This has been a very important issue for many years. Since I became a member of parliament, and even before, when I entered politics, people from Jasło came to me and expressed their comments about the fact that they had not received appropriate compensation for the damage caused. In 2017, we held a meeting in Starosty with people who remember the destroyed city and now, thanks to the great help of the City of Jasło, Starosty and the Jasło City Council, District Council and the great contribution of the Jasło museum, we managed to present an exhibition about Jasło being dismantled in Brussels – said MEP B. Rzońca. – We have a proper chronicle and from what I noted there are MPs from France, Hungary, Latvia, even one MP from Germany included in it – he added. He thanked the chairman of the board and the Jasło stars for taking a resolution on this issue. – I would be very grateful if the City Council also took action and if free to do so, it would definitely help the Polish government in proving this loss – said the member of the European Parliament. This is not a political invention, a game – added.

The exhibition, held in Brussels, was the idea of ​​MEP B. Rzoniec. The materials used to carry out this project came from the collection of the Regional Museum in Jasło. – We have thousands of photos and hundreds of documents showing the tragedy of the city of Jasło, and it has been shown. We wanted to use images instead of text, because people are busy and don’t have time to read, so I think the exhibition was a success for us, the organizers, because it fulfilled its function. It was presented in the main hall of the European Parliament – said Mariusz Świątek, director of the Regional Museum in Jasło. He also added that currently a film is being made that will tell about the tragedy of this city. The production will be released on the 80th anniversary of the destruction of Jasło. – A number of events are planned to commemorate the drama of the city’s residents. This corresponds to the idea of ​​spreading knowledge about the tragedy, and at the same time is a reason to apply for reparations on the basis of – we have evidence, materials prepared by Germany itself – added director Świątek.

Member of Parliament Maria Kurowska also mentioned the relevant resolution adopted by the Sejm in connection with the report submitted by Member of Parliament Arkadiusz Mularczyk. – On that day, I also delivered the appropriate parliamentary statement regarding the special treatment of the city of Jasło during World War II. What happened then affected us for decades and some things are irreversible – he pointed out. – The Jasło archive was also destroyed during the war fires prepared by Walter Gentz ​​​​and therefore we lost most of the history, its descriptions from the past, that were in this archive. We slowly discovered various residents of Jasło, who were not mentioned in our archives, we had to look for them in the archives of Lviv or Krakow – stressed lawmaker Kurowska.
