Stiff goal canceled out as Napoli lose at Anfield: – Very frustrating

It looked as though the game would end goalless, but five minutes from full time, substitute Darwin Núñez triumphed in the air from a corner from Kostas Tsimikas. Goalkeeper Alex Meret saved on the line, but Mohamed Salah rebounded from close range.

In extra time, the score went 2-0 at Nuñez after another corner from Tsimikas. He scored from the goal line after Virgil van Dijk’s header was saved by Meret. Initially the goal was ruled out for offside, but after a VAR review, the goal was approved.

stigård headed a free kick from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia into the net in the 53rd minute and cheered for a 1-0 lead, but the goal was ruled out for offside after several minutes of VAR checks.

– When you have to stand and wait for three minutes for a decision, it’s quite obvious that they are not convinced. When it comes to so little, it’s very frustrating to stand and wait. I’ve scored one of the biggest goals of my career and see that the linesman has gone down. Then we have to wait that long. It will destroy feelings, Stigrd told TV 2.

– I think they should have maximum time to make a decision. Three minutes of waiting is too long. This spoils a bit of the charm in football.

The Norwegian national team goalkeeper has struggled with playing time following his transfer to Napoli, but he is starting in the Champions League for the second time in a row, and he is again showing his head on set pieces. Last week he made it 3-0 over Rangers with a powerful header. On Tuesday, he used his head again, but that didn’t help him steer the ball past Alisson. His shoulders were inches inside the last defender when the free-kick was taken.

Prestige

Both teams are poised for the last 16 before Tuesday’s clash, and Liverpool barely even believe in the four-goal win it takes to be group winners, but the game shows that there is a lot of prestige at stake.

Napoli are looking to progress from the group stage without dropping points, while Liverpool are looking to avenge their 4-1 defeat at Napoli earlier this fall. Then Jürgen Klopp’s men played according to all the rules of the art. A home win gives Liverpool redemption.

– Winning against one of the best teams in the world gives a good feeling. We have to build on this and bring confidence to the league and cup games,” Salah told BT Sport.

In the same group, Ajax won 3-1 away over Rangers and secured a third place giving game in the Europa League. Scores from Steven Berghuis, Mohammed Kudus and Francisco Conceicão ensured that.

Opportunity

Already in the early minutes, Liverpool showed serious intentions. Salah played Curtis Jones, who parried the ball past the goalkeeper but saw it fall onto the roof of the net.

Liverpool were the better team before the break. Thiago tested goalkeeper Meret after less than half an hour, while Jones fired home after Roberto Firmino had set him free with a back heel.

Early in the second half, Liverpool’s corner resulted in dangerous finishes from Firmino and Salah, but Napoli also had their chances and would have produced more.

stigård silenced the home crowd with his header but there was cheers when referee Tobias Stieler was told by video referee Bastian Dankert to cancel.

Kvaratskhelia came on a little later for a good chance with a volley that changed direction but did not fool Alisson.

Meret made a fine save on Salah’s finish ten minutes from full time, but Salah made it in the end. Nuñez was strong in the air against Eljis Elmas and paved the way for the goal.

In the eighth added minute, Nuñez changed the score to 2-0.
