There is a government response! They want to do more events like that

Jonas Vingegaard’s second consecutive victory in cycling’s Tour de France made the Danish government decide to actively try to organize as many world-class sporting events as possible.

It will first send a delegation to the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow in August to make contact.

“The Tour de France, which last year held three stages in Denmark, brought euphoria to the whole country, and television images broadcast around the world show that such an event can be a window for the country,” Economy Minister Morten Boedskov told Ekstrabladet.

Minister of Culture and Sports Jakob Engel Schmidt along with a government delegation will go to Glasgow as representatives of the winning countries of the Tour de France.

– Being on site for such an important event can be of great benefit to future cycling contacts, and Denmark has hosted the World Cup for a long time, back in 2011, so it’s time for something else. In turn, 2021, when Denmark is one of the hosts of Euro football, shows the extraordinary unity of the people of our country – he added.

The ministers emphasized that it was not just about cycling, which under the Danish flag is “in vogue”, but about all sports – “which is why we will now try to organize as many championships and top-level competitions as possible. Vingegaard and our Danish cyclists are showing how to do publicity for the country.”

– As you can see, Vingegaard with his success alerted his government and now politicians have understood how important sport is for creating the image of the country – commented the Danish media.
