Why is the Senate block working on a reparations resolution?

The senator asked the Foreign Ministry to provide a record of the reparations addressed to the German government, after obtaining it, the committee will continue to work on the resolution – this is how Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki commented on the words of PiS MP Arkadiusz Mularczyk that the PO wanted to interfere with the repair struggle.

Senators block work on reparations law

The Senate Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Union will on Wednesday conduct the first reading of a draft resolution submitted by PiS in Poland seeking compensation for the damage caused to Germany during World War II. The Sejm adopted a resolution with the same content on September 14. The senate draft calls on the German government to “resolutely assume political, historical, legal and financial responsibility” for all the consequences caused to Poland and its citizens as a result of the outbreak of World War II by the Third Reich.

I think we’ll find out the motive soon enough.”

Marek Borowski, the knockout senator, signaled for a postponement of work on the draft resolution, and most Senate committee members supported the motion.

Mularczyk, who, as announced, will become deputy foreign minister – asked Wednesday in an interview at PAP Studio about delaying the Senate work on the draft resolution, judging that “something has changed in the position of the Civic Platform, something new has happened and Platforma decided that it would, however, prevent the Polish government from pursuing reparations claims from Germany”.

I think we will find out the motive soon but this is shocking and outrageous news for me

– added.

Let Minister Mularczyk gracefully beat his own chest”

When asked at a press conference on Wednesday about this statement by a PiS MP, Grodzki said that the Senate “worked reliably and it was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that asked the Senate that a note be submitted to the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.”

Before making decisions and resolutions, the senators just want to read this note

– added.

Let Minister Mularczyk gracefully slap her own breasts. Once the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends us these notes, the commission will continue its work. What will be the end, of course, depends on the wishes of the women and senators

– said the chairman of the Senate, adding that “Mularczyk’s insinuations are, to put it mildly, completely unfounded.”

Justifying a formal motion to delay consideration of the draft resolution, Senator Borowski said that Borys Budka, chairman of the Civil Coalition club, sent a letter to the Foreign Ministry requesting a diplomatic note on reparations sent to Berlin.

We want to know if and what reparations the Polish government is asking for from the Federal Republic of Germany. What negotiation path is proposed by the Polish side, is this report (on reparations – PAP) attached there? We’re also interested in the answer, because duplicating the same resolution is not effective. We would like to know what is in this note and what the response from the German Government is

– He says.

On September 1, a report on the losses suffered by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during World War II was presented, which showed that the total amount of losses was more than PLN 6 billion 220 billion PLN 609 million. The report was prepared by a team that operated during the previous parliamentary term, led by Mularczyk.

In early October, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note on war reparations addressed to the German side.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Piotr Wawrzyk, later explained that the notes addressed to the German government were implementations of the Sejm resolutions, so the phrases used in them “are the same as those used in the Sejm resolutions”. He emphasized that the original draft of the Sejm resolution contained the word reparation, while the adopted resolution did not contain it.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry Annalena Baerbock, referring to a note sent by Poland, stated during her last visit to Warsaw that “the issue of reparations from the point of view of the federal government is closed”.
