Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has arrived in Moldova to participate in the European Summit in Bulboaca, Reuters reports.
The meeting will be held at a wine castle 35 kilometers outside the capital Chisinau, and just 20 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
Top leaders from more than 40 EU countries will meet here in the second meeting within the framework of the European Political Community. They will discuss security issues and current topics.
The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap), attended as the Norwegian representative.
Comes with a warning
– Waiting for Nato
There has been speculation that Zelenskyj will appear, but this has not been confirmed. During his arrival, he stated that Ukraine was ready to become a member of NATO.
– Ukraine is ready to join NATO and we are waiting for NATO to be ready, he said.
In a message on Telegram, Zelenskyj wrote that he will be holding many bilateral meetings, and the discussion will include fighter jets.
– We are developing a coalition of fighters and offering a coalition of “patriots”. European Union, NATO, peace formula. Everything to protect our future, wrote Zelensky.
Requires feedback
During the meeting, Zelenskyj expressed a desire to form a coalition of air defense and fighter jets. He said that it would help bring peace.
– There is no room for a hot or cold war in Europe, says Zelenskyj.
He also said that Ukraine needed a clear decision on their NATO membership at the NATO meeting in Vilnius.
– This is the year of decisions. A clear invitation to NATO and assurances that membership is on the way is necessary, Zelenskyj said during the conference.
He believes that Russia is afraid of NATO.
– Russia is afraid of NATO and is only trying to swallow up the surrounding countries that are not part of the common security it provides. And Russia will start a cold war if they fail to engulf its neighbors, Zelenskyy said at the summit.
The conference is the largest of its kind ever held in the country, and Moldovan authorities say it is a move towards EU membership. Moldova obtained candidate country status in June 2022.
