He claimed to be Jewish… had a grandfather in the Wehrmacht

Another scandal is brewing at the Capitol in Washington over resume manipulation. Newly elected congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna claims to be Jewish. However, he did not mention a word about his grandfather serving in the Wehrmacht during World War II.

The 33-year-old Luna, who once fancied herself a Democrat and supported Barack Obama, became a conservative star in Florida two years ago. He failed to win a seat when he ran for the US House of Representatives for the first time, but he did in the November election. He colored his biography with “inconsistencies”.

Luna’s life, who is a member of parliament from the Republican Party who opposed the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives, became the subject of media coverage, including the Washington Post. There have been accusations that he was referring to his Jewish heritage and upbringing, although people familiar with the matter deny this.

Depending on what best suits the situation at any given time, he can tweak and adapt his resume

– said Luna’s roommate, Brittany Brooks, who lived with her for six months and was a close friend during her military service.

Weird story

As Luna claimed in an interview with “Jewish Insider”, although she self-identifies as a Christian, she was “raised by her father to be a messianic Jew”.

Luna’s parents are not married. According to her mother, Monika Luna, her father, George Mayerhofer, was “a Christian who converted to the messianic faith”, and his daughter buried him according to Jewish custom.

However, the other three members of Luna’s extended family call her Catholic. They were unaware that he practiced any form of Judaism when their daughter was growing up.

Emigration to Canada

According to the Washington Post, Luna’s grandfather, Heinrich Mayerhofer, immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1954 and identified as a Roman Catholic. He died in 2003. One of his sons, Edward Mayerhofer, gave “WP” a portrait of Heinrich Mayerhofer wearing a Wehrmacht soldier’s uniform.

Edward’s wife, Jolanta, and daughter, Nicole, confirmed to a Washington newspaper that Heinrich served there as a teenager in the 1940s.
