He stayed just outside the podium at Lake Placid, finishing in 9th place

Piotr Żyła was fourth, Aleksander Zniszczoł ninth, Kamil Stoch 24th, Dawid Kubacki 29th and Paweł Wąsek 50th in Sunday's Ski Jumping World Cup competition in American Lake Placid. The winner was Stefan Kraft from Austria.

Second place ex aequo was taken by Philipp Raimund from Germany and Lovro Kos from Slovenia.

Piotr Żyła jumped 125 m and 123 m, which gave him 269.9 points. Aleksander Zniszczoł achieved 124.5 m and 123 m – 259.2 points, Kamil Stoch 117.5 m and 116.5 m – 237.5 points, and Dawid Kubacki – 114.5 m and 116.5 m – 229.1 points. Wąsek had the shortest jump of the competition, 86 m.

Poland's best performance of the season

On Sunday, Poland recorded its best performance of this World Cup season. Żyła was just behind the podium, while Zniszczoł was in the top ten for the fourth time in a row. The ski jumper from Wisła started her series in Willingen, where she was eighth twice.

Kraft reached 130.5 m and 126 m – 281.6 points. Kos jumped 130 m and 127.5 m, while Raimund jumped 127 m and 135 m, both gaining 278.4 points.

The 30-year-old Austrian claimed his 38th World Cup win and is chasing Stoch and Adam Małysz, who have 39 wins. The record holder is fellow countryman Gregor Schlierenzauer who won 53 times. In addition, Kraft climbed the podium for the 110th time and in this case he is the best jumper in history.

Simon Amman finished in 40th place. The 42-year-old Swiss celebrated a wonderful birthday by taking part in the World Cup individual competition for the 500th time on Sunday.

Kraft strengthens its lead in the World Cup general classification. After winning at Lake Placid, he tallied 1,236 points. Second place was Andreas Wellinger from Germany who scored 1,027 points. Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan is third only six points behind him. The best Polish player, Aleksander Zniszczoł, has 200 points and is in 22nd place.

Next weekend, the jumpers will compete in Sapporo, Japan, which will hold two individual competitions.
