He turned the basement into a boys’ den with a bar, a cinema and even a secret door

A 46-year-old businessman from the American state of New York moved into a house with a basement eight years ago. But he regretted arranging the free basement as a storage area. He sensed great potential to give the entire house something special, so he got to work. He turned the basement into a fabulous men’s tailoring shop, or rather a gentlemen’s club. Not excessive.

The centerpiece of the room is a full-sized bar with three taps, a dishwasher, refrigerator, ice maker and sink. Equipped with a display case of dozens of bottles of various alcoholic drinks, glasses are hung on it… Not far from it is a round table, on top of which resin-coated coins are stacked close to each other. A dartboard was mounted on one wall, a pool table stood in the middle of the open space, and a television hung on another wall, in front of which was a sofa. Sports broadcasts on TV, etc. mostly watched here.

“I throw parties here a few times a year, especially when the Buffalo Bills play. There’s a stereo connected to the TV speakers on the wall,” Jason explained in an interview for the agency Hot news.

Secret doors don’t only exist in books. You can also have it at home

If he and his guests decide to watch a movie, they definitely won’t stay in front of the TV. Because people go to the cinema to watch films – and of course that’s the case here too. The small cinema hall is entered through double doors, the handles of which form large film reels cut in half. On the wall is a cone-shaped lamp with Tiffany shades.

Right in the basement, Jason also equipped a large bedroom which is equipped with a bathroom and toilet.

He started with chalk in his hand

“In 2015, I moved to a new house with a floor plan of 204 m2 and an unfinished basement. It also now has a floor plan of 204 m2. One of the problems is figuring out how to hide the support columns, of which there are several. I started by drawing chalk lines on the concrete floor to outline the future layout,” he said.

A friend laid the floor for him and then he had to organize water and waste distribution. Jason also thought he would like to have a fireplace next to the workshop door. So he installed it. But as he looked at it, it occurred to him that a regular door next to a fireplace didn’t look good, and a bookshelf would look much better if it were placed in its place. And that’s clear. He covered the door with a bookcase and thus created a secret entrance to the workshop.

Jason worked on the basement transformation and furnishings for two years, and according to him, the hardest part was carrying all the drywall and stone down the stairs bit by bit. Over time he converted the garage next to the house into a warehouse and had to park his car in front of it.

But now the man’s study is the decoration of the entire house, in which he invested between 962,000 and 1 million crowns. “I think the basement is good enough to add tremendous value to my home. I plan to move again. Maybe next year. “Maybe I will…” the man was surprised by his conclusion.
