Metaverse also attracted Microsoft. That’s why he decided to make a multibillion dollar game acquisition

That came to light when Microsoft representatives announced last week that they would be buying game studio Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion (about CZK 1.5 trillion).

The American software giant would thus become the owner of a number of well-known names in the gaming world – call them at least Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Candy Crush, Tony Hawk, Diablo, Overwatch, Spyro, Hearthstone, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot and StarCraft. .

“We’re investing hard in world-class content, community and cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first,” said Microsoft’s head of acquisitions Satya Nadella.

He then added that the company’s American plans extend to the virtual universe. “Games are the most dynamic and engaging category of entertainment today across all platforms and will play a key role in the evolution of the platform metaverse,” said Nadella.

However, he didn’t want to reveal any further details about the metaverse’s plans.

What are Epic Games and Meta doing?

Epic Games has been working on a new virtual world that will be used to deliver products and play games since last year.

The Meta company will also try to be successful with its own metaverse, as its founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed before last summer’s vacation. In the fall, the company gave the entire plan a more realistic outline. It will aim to gradually recruit 10,000 people in Europe to work on creating virtual universes over the next ten to 15 years.

Microsoft will pay $68.7 billion (about CZK 1.5 trillion) for the Activision Blizzard studio. After successfully completing the entire deal, the American software giant should turn into the third largest gaming company in the world, at least in terms of revenue. Thus, its ranking will be behind Tencent and Sony. But the business still needs to be approved by the regulatory authorities.
