New ultrasound will help treat prostate cancer | Health | News | Brno Gossip

Doctors from the Urology Department of University Hospital in St. Anny in Brno gets new help in the fight against prostate cancer. Modern ultrasound devices allow specialists to carry out the most modern method of diagnosis – the so-called fusion biopsy of the prostate, which makes the diagnosis of tumors more precise.

More than 60,000 patients are treated for prostate cancer in the Czech Republic. This is the most common cancer in men. “Early diagnosis is essential and goes hand in hand with timely and well-adjusted treatment. Fusion biopsies, which we can perform thanks to new ultrasound and complex software connections, allow combining images from two different sources, magnetic resonance and ultrasound. The result is a precise focus image so that the biopsy becomes more targetede,” said the head of the Department of Urology at University Hospitals in St. Louis. Anne Peter Filipensky.

The ultrasound system is equipped with a special guidance device for fusion biopsies. “Thus, the possibility of repeated unpleasant examinations is reduced, which is often associated with a large mental and physical burden on the patient and, last but not least, also long-term uncertainty regarding the possible risk of undetected malignant tumors.Filipenský added.
