The government liquidates the National Institute of Remembrance. Mularczyk: An attack on historical policy

“For 100 days there have been attacks on our country's historic policies. “This is not only a proposal to remove historical topics regarding World War II, Polish heroes and the uprising, but also an attack on historical issues in the curriculum,” said Arkadiusz Mularczyk, law and justice lawmaker, on Television in Poland. He was referring to the Coalition's December 13 announcement regarding the liquidation of the National Memorial Institute.

The Deputy Minister of National Defense recently announced that the coalition government plans to liquidate the Institute of National Remembrance.

We know how to do it, we just need to get the buy-in and approval of all our coalition partners

– said Stanisław Wziątek, deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense in Świnoujście on Wednesday.

Reasons for the planned liquidation of the National Memorial Institute

Member of Parliament Mularczyk was asked about this issue on Television in Poland.

We also see that over the last 100 days there have been attacks on our country's historical policies. This is not only a proposal to remove historical topics regarding World War II, Polish heroes, and the uprising, but also an attack on historical issues in general in the curriculum. This shows that the December 13 Coalition has set a goal

– said the PiS politician.

As he pointed out, Donald Tusk's administration aimed to “erase our country's recent history, especially regarding the German occupation, World War II and information about Polish heroes and steadfast soldiers.”

Obviously this bothers them. One might get the impression that the people who manage Polish education today or who govern are third-generation heirs of the Security Service. They were disturbed by everything related to Polish independence, Polish sovereignty, Polish rebellion, and heroes

– said the former Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Tusk government rejected the German war reparations project

Mularczyk also referred to the issue that the Sejm's Foreign Affairs Committee rejected at the first reading of the PiS project regarding the continuation of Germany's war reparations-related activities. The draft resolution was submitted in December 2023.

This is a surprising situation, because not long ago, on September 14, 2022, the entire Civic Platform, including the SLD and PSL, voted for a resolution on compensation for the impact of World War II from Germany. A year and a half has passed, the political system has changed and these people are saying that this resolution is no longer needed

– said the former deputy minister.

It shows complete opportunism and opportunism in approaching this very important topic from the point of view of Polish interests, Polish historical policy, justice, responsibility, that these people supported the resolution before the elections because they believed that the public might be angry. that kind of attitude.

– comments PiS MP.

The issue of war reparations had previously been dealt with by the Parliamentary Team to Estimate the Amount of Poland's Compensation from Germany for Damages Inflicted during World War II. Since September 2017, experts from various fields have been preparing War losses reports. The team leader at that time was Arkadiusz Mularczyk.
