News, Hadsel | – The action is an important tradition for many people

Here at Nordland, the joy of giving tends to be overwhelming. Very large. Regional action leader Hanne Myrvang was very happy with that.

– All of Nordland is mobilizing. It was a pleasure to be a part of it, he notes.

Last year, more than NOK 12 million was collected in the Nordland area. That’s a new record.

– We hope this year can be even better. Many of them consider this campaign as a fun tradition, which they probably started by going out with their parents, and then they continue as gay bearers.

– This is the largest charity in the world, says Myrvang.

Children

This year’s campaign is for the benefit of Save the Children. And the message is that children should be allowed to be children.

– It’s about children. Dot. We don’t need to put labels on it other than that children should be allowed to be children and children should be allowed to live in peace, said Hanne Myrvang.

Funds raised will be used, among other things, to provide mental and physical health services, ensure safe routes to school, reunite families and provide safe local environments where children can play.

– They have the same needs, whether they live in Ukraine, Syria or Norway. And we have seen the events of the last few days, unfortunately this is more relevant than ever.

The money was distributed to projects in Bangladesh, Congo, Syria, Ukraine, South Sudan and Norway.

– We have good experience so many people want to participate and many people want to contribute. This year we are 49 years old, so it is a strong tradition in Norway, says Hanne Myrvang.

It is still possible for those who wish to contribute as pallbearers. There is also a need for drivers.

Arrangement

– We have several school children who will be pallbearers. Therefore, an adult is needed who can come with them and also act as a driver. We want more people to register there, said coordinator at Sortland, Unni Glad.

In connection with this campaign, among other things, a quiz and an open family Saturday will be held at Villa Hjertegod.

– We also want to have a call service for the business community, said Happy.

Last year, more than NOK 570,000 was collected in the city of Sortland. The hope is they can get more than 600,000 this year.

– And we also encourage teams and associations to hold events to generate revenue for the campaign. Of course, private individuals are also welcome to do so.

Important for many people

In Hadsel, they are also excited, where NOK 356,000 was collected in 2022. This year, the elections have attracted a lot of attention, but now that they are over, all you have to do is roll up your sleeves, stressed Mayor Lena Arntzen.

– We haven’t worked on it as much as usual, so this year will probably be more interesting. But now we are moving on. “We want to continue the good trend we have experienced in recent years,” he said.

Because also in Hadsel, this campaign is important to many people.

– There are many people who have that tradition, they sign up as pall bearers and go on that Sunday journey. “This is important and meaningful and is something we are excited about at the municipality,” Arntzen said.
