Now Casper (18) dreams of becoming the best in the world – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

After a month and a half of touring in South America and the United States, Casper Ruud returned to Norway. With him in his suitcase, he had over 200 new ranking points, and increased star status.

With a world ranking of 130, Ruud is ranked the best 18-year-old player in the world.

– Even though I’ve broken through a bit now, you can’t stop for that reason. His ultimate goal is to become number one in the world one day. Even though there is still a long way to go, you have to chase your dreams, Ruud told NRK.no.

This weekend he plays the Davis Cup at his home in Stavanger.

This year, part of the goal is to get into the top hundred, which gives direct access to the biggest tournaments, such as the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.

– Whether it happens in one month or seven months or not at all, I don’t know. But at least I will try my best.

The father: – I wish I had the courage to do it myself

Christian Ruud, Casper’s father, is the highest-ranked Norwegian tennis player of all time. He is at his best at 39th, and thinks it is important for his son to dare to dream big.

– Dare to believe is important. “I wish I had the courage to do it myself,” said the senior Ruud.

IMPORTANT SUPPORT PLAYERS: Pastor Christian Ruud still holds the record for the best-ranked Norwegian player, but if his son continues to develop at the same pace as before, his son could become a better father.

Casper gives most of the credit to his father for being as successful as he is. Throughout his career, Christian’s father has been an important supporter of his son.

– I try to do as much as possible correctly. I have the experience and competence at this level to help him, the father said, but added that ultimately it was about his son’s own inner motivation.

– He is the one who has to shine, and he is the one who has to hit the decisive ball.

Marks an increase in star status

After a number of good results, attention has increased on the 18-year-old. The Norwegian noticed this when he returned to Norway again.

– I notice it when I get home now, compared to when I got home a year ago. The atmosphere is a little different.

– How?

– For example, people find it fun to come and watch training sessions. There were small children playing sports nearby, who often sat and watched. Of course my friends think it’s cool. I am much busier than before. But I think it’s fun.
