Písecká Hospital opens cervical cancer prevention center Health | News | Budějská Drbna

A new gynecological cancer prevention (COP) center opened in Písek. This is intended for women who are at risk of cervical cancer. The center is run by the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of Písek Hospital.

Písecká hospital expands the range of health and preventive services provided to patients from the region. Over the years, they no longer have to travel to distant cities, for example for surgery to prevent urine leakage or for special ultrasound examinations of the fetus in the first three months of pregnancy. Recently, women with precancerous conditions of the cervix will also receive professional treatment here.

“In the gynecological center for the prevention of oncology, we examine women, determine the diagnosis and treatment procedures, and follow up after any surgery. “Using special tools and combined with laboratory tests, we determine how serious the changes in the cervix are.” said MUDR. Michal TurekMBA, head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Písek Hospital and chief physician of COP.

Special gynecological examinations for the prevention of oncology are permitted by the Czech Medical Chamber and Písek's workplace has been granted a new permit for it. “For some more risky or rare findings in suppositories, the recommended examination is the expert colposcopy method. This is an optical gynecological examination method, in which the vagina and cervix are viewed with a microscope. We will use a video colposcope for this examination, which also records the findings and allows the patient to view them on a monitor.” The Turkish Prime Minister explained the news.

The COP preventive gynecological oncology center in Písek performs about 100 operations on the cervix (conization or partial removal of the cervix) per year and examines 300 women with pre-cancerous conditions of this organ. Its staff collaborates with specialized centers for female organ cancers in České Budějovice and Prague. “Our department provides special care for patients from Písecko and its surroundings, which is only available in big cities. They do not need to travel long distances, for example for operations on women's pelvic floors, when they experience problems due to urine leakage, or for special care for pregnant women and newborns. Preventive screening for cervical cancer is one of them,” added Michal Turek.
