– Conversion therapy is an unacceptable interference in people’s sexual orientation and gender identity, which destroys lives – now it will finally be banned, says Trettebergstuen ien pers conference Friday.

It is hoped that over the next few months there will be a final bill outlawing this highly controversial method. The ban was originally supposed to come in April, but was postponed.

The government writes that a ban on conversion therapy will impact:

“Anyone who offends another person by using psychotherapy, medical, alternative medicine or religious-based methods or similar systematic procedures, with the intention of influencing the person concerned to change, deny or suppress his sexual orientation or gender identity.”

– People should be able to be themselves safely, without experiencing shame and psychological pressure because of who they are or who they love. The bill makes it clear that these are the measures we want to implement, said Trettebergstuen.
