The machete attacker on Frýdeck lost consciousness during police intervention, and later died

On Wednesday, police in Frýdecko-Místek intervened against a 46-year-old man who was aggressive with a machete. During the procedure, the man who attacked the police with a machete experienced health problems and fell unconscious. He died on the way to the hospital. This was announced on Thursday by the spokespersons of the Moravian-Silesian rescue and police, Lukáš Humpl and Pavla Jiroušková.

The incident occurred in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí just after four in the afternoon. “We intervened against an aggressive and dangerous perpetrator who was armed with a machete, and there was a machete attack on a police officer. Patrols from the Frýdlant nad Ostravicí district department and the Frýdek-Místek patrol services department were at the scene. There were four policemen in total,” Jiroušková said.

He added that officers repeatedly used challenges, tear gas, groping, grabbing, threats of firearms, and also electric stun guns. “The police did not use firearms,” added Jiroušková.

However, during the procedure, the man experienced health problems and fell unconscious. “When we arrived, the police were providing first aid to the patient. Based on our information, the heart attack occurred during a police operation. When the man was taken to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead,” said Humbly.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death. According to Jiroušková, the police cannot provide further information at this time. “The case was taken over by the General Inspector of Security Apparatus,” he said.
