Oskar Kwiatkowski was elected as councilor of the Biały Dunajec commune in Podhale. It looks like the parallel giant slalom snowboarding world champion is ready to take on a new challenge. – I want to be closer to the people – he said in PAP.

April is an interesting month in Polish politics. All this because of the regional elections which took place on April 6 and, if necessary, also two weeks later.

Oskar Kwiatkowski is especially waiting for the first round. Then voters elect board members. The Polish snowboarder is trusted by the residents of Biały Dunajec in Podhale. 128 votes, or 70 percent. in his constituency, giving him a seat on the city council.

– It seems that I will combine my life as an athlete with the functions of a board member without major problems. I’m in a good situation because coach Oskar Bom arranged the schedule so that we can be at home as much as possible. Well, if the holiday does not coincide with the date, for example, of the DPRD session, there is no problem, because it can be done remotely via the internet – said the athlete, quoted by PAP.

– Of course, this is a new experience for me and I definitely need time to understand my duties thoroughly. So I don’t expect to immediately “move mountains”, but I definitely want to get closer to the community, find out their needs and ideas and share them on the council forum, he added.

Oskar Kwiatkowski is not afraid of new challenges, although he himself is an active sportsman, with considerable success. Last year was an extraordinary year for him. He then won a gold medal in parallel giant slalom at the world championships in Bakuriani, Georgia.

On Tuesday, the snowboarder will debut a new role. The first session of the Commune Council in Biały Dunajec is scheduled for today.
