TVN reporters show what the world is saying about the changes at TVP. There is a wave of hatred

“Ladies and gentlemen, since yesterday I have been bombarded with hatred. I have been trying to provide information objectively for more than 20 years. Please, you can’t be like this” – wrote Anna Czerwińska on the X site.

His entry appeared a day after TVN “Fakty” broadcast its material showing the reaction of Western media to new developments in Polish public media. Czerwińska pointed out a part of a BBC program where a British journalist said that “Poland’s new pro-European coalition government fires head of public broadcaster to depoliticize state media.”

– Britain’s public broadcaster reminded that in eight years Poland fell from 18th to 57th in the global press freedom index – Czerwińska summarizes BBC comments. – The BBC asks how Jarosław Kaczyński can claim that the protest (of PiS politicians at TVP headquarters – editor’s note) is a defense of democracy and media pluralism. And he stated: in his definition, media pluralism will be reduced as a result of PiS losing control over TVP – reports the journalist.

Then he showed a fragment of the German public television program ZDF, whose reporter made that comment Polish public media had been “the propaganda tube of the previous national-conservative government.”

Czerwińska also cited comments from Reuters, Politico, France24 and the New York Times, in the same vein. There is also room for different opinions expressed by extreme right-wing sites from France.

TVN journalist Katarzyna Kolenda-Zalewska reacted to Czerwińska’s entry, published on Friday at 21:37 on the X website. “Ania! Wait a minute and don’t worry!” – wrote the reporter.

Revolution in public media

Let us recall that on Wednesday morning the Ministry of Culture announced that on Tuesday the new Minister of Culture, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, dismissed the current presidents of the management boards of Telewizja Polska, Polish Radio and the Polish Press Agency as well as their supervisory boards. The minister appointed new supervisory boards of these companies, and they elected new management boards. The ministry explained that this was the result of the Sejm’s resolution on Tuesday, in which MEPs called on the Ministry of Finance to restore legal order and the impartiality and reliability of the public media and the Polish Press Agency.

PiS politicians started the protest at the TVP building on Powstańców Warszawy Square, where TVP Info and TVP1 news service “Wiadomości” broadcast, as well as at the head office at 17 Woronicza Street.
