– It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Ray Woolley has passed away, wrote the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) Facebook.

Woolley set his first record as the world’s oldest diver in 2017, to celebrate his 94th birthday. The following year he dived again and broke his own record.

She set her third and final record in a dive of up to 42 meters on the M/S Zenobia wreck in 2019, when she was 96 years and 3 days old.

Ray Woolley began diving when he was approaching 40 years of age, and boasted an impressive 62-year diving career when he passed away on 12 November.

The oldest in the world breaks a new record

– Ray is a member of the BSAC and a WWII veteran. He holds the record for being the oldest diver in the world three times, and is an inspiration to many. Rest in peace, wrote the BSAC.

Ray Woolley is a great example that age is just a number and it’s never too late to start diving!

In September 2020, Woolley lost his world record to American Bill Lambert, who dived when he was 100 years and 2 days old.

This is still the current record, according to Guinness World Records.
