Video: Ditches, mud and winter. Bachmut resembles a battlefield from the First World War

Bakhmut Ukraine, located in the Donetsk region, has been a site of devastation, where the armies of both countries bled, some three quarters of a year after the start of the war. Both sides have been sending heavy troops and material here for months: the Russians are trying to take the town, the Ukrainians are trying to hold it. They also succeeded thanks to the extensive defensive fortifications.

The battle for Bachmut gradually turned into a battle of attrition. The city environment resembles a destroyed one battlefield from the First World War.

Published videos also prove it photo, which is in many ways similar to the war conflict that occurred 100 years ago. For example, the Twitter account Saint Javelin published a collage where on one side are photos from the Battle of Passchendaele and on the other side are photos from Bachmut.

The adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, is alone Account posted a video taken by the defenders of the city. They are currently living in the trenches. As you can see in the footage, tons of mud, rainy weather and constant shelling from the Russian side made life difficult for them.

“While Ukrainian civilians are having problems with electricity and heat in most areas, our defenders in Bakhmut are fighting for the freedom of Ukraine in such conditions. They won’t break! Praise the heroes!”, read the post next to the video.

Although Russian forces may not have captured the city, there may still be significant numbers of Ukrainian troops and equipment tied up there that the opposing side could use elsewhere.
