Davos 2024. There are four main topics. What?

State and government representatives, including more than 40 foreign ministers, will meet at the Swiss resort in the coming days. The United States will be represented by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President Joe Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan. They will be the highest ranking US representatives. Bliken and Sullivan in Davos will be joined by interlocutors who play an important role in resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip: the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Israel – the Reuters news agency emphasized.

The forum opened on Monday with cultural events. Sessions and deliberations will begin on Tuesday. They are grouped into four main topics, according to their titles“security and cooperation in a divided world”, “creating growth and jobs for a new era”, “artificial intelligence as a leading force in the economy and society” and “long-term strategies for climate, nature and energy”. The Davos Forum will end on January 19.

Russia's war against Ukraine has been the dominant topic in the two previous meetings in Davos. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also speak at this year's conference. Russia, which launched an invasion of its neighboring country in February 2022, did not send any representatives to Davos. Its ally – China – will be represented at the forum by Premier Li Qiang.

Forum organizers emphasized that participants in this year's meeting will be leaders of Global South countries. The group of non-aligned countries – countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America – have largely remained on the sidelines regarding the war in Ukraine, although they initially condemned Russia, Reuters noted.

Davos 2024. There are many economic problems that the world must solve

The agency stressed that the forum took place in conditions of increasing geopolitical tensions: the war in Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas; risks to shipping in the Red Sea are related to the situation in the Middle East, as well as increasing pressure from China regarding Beijing's claim to control Taiwan.

The economy will be an important topic of the meeting. This year's meeting in Davos will take place at a time when companies are operating in complex conditions: mediocre global economic growth, individual economies countries are struggling with high interest rates, political threats, and the impact of the pandemic – Reuters notes. 530 institutional leaders from the banking, finance, investment and insurance industries came to Davos.

Poland will be represented at the forum by President Andrzej Duda, who will meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on January 16. On the same day, he will speak at the discussion “Foreign Direct Investment in Central and Eastern Europe: Risks and Opportunities”. He will also take part in the opening of an exhibition on Russian war crimes in Ukraine. On January 17, the Polish president will participate in the discussion “Defending the European United Front”.

He will conduct interviews, among others: with European Commission Vice President Viera Jourova, the presidents of Croatia, Lithuania and Latvia: Andrej Plenkovic, Gitanas Nauseda and Edgars Rinkeviczs, and with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. A meeting with Swiss Confederation President Viola Amherd, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is scheduled for January 18.
