You hear Semir Gerchán’s voice on TV almost every day without you knowing it

IN TODAY’S EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN, INCLUDING:
  • About the Mask in two versions (02:43 am)
  • Funny stories from filming or How Bohdan Tůma learned Korean, for example (5:30am)
  • The role of Bohdan Tůma in the song Tepláky (8:24 am)
  • Who are Roman Novotn and Leopold Kohák? (1:30 p.m.)
  • One sentence with the voice of many characters (26:50)

Not all voice actors are able to voice several characters in a series, so the audience doesn’t notice it right away. However, this is not a problem in itself for the “voice chameleon” Bohdan Tůma. In the Simpsons series, he not only dubbed the local police chief, but also Duffman or drunk Barney. Several characters speak Czech with their voices also in South Park Town.

Viewers may recognize him as the person who most often labels actors Jim Carrey, Denzel Washington or Wesley Snipes, and it’s therefore not surprising when Bohdan Tůma says that he nicknames twenty to thirty things a day. “I can finish seven studies in a day, but I finish at ten o’clock at night. Two to three studies a day is ideal,” he said.

However, he didn’t accept every offer, he said that it always depended on his current mood as well as the contract that was offered to him. In some studios, he also pays attention to details such as the sound engineer of the film.

What is a podcast and why don’t you call it Czech?
Podcasts are recordings of the spoken word placed on the Internet where anyone can play them. The advantage of podcasts over radio broadcasts is the possibility to listen to your favorite programs anytime and anywhere. If you’re on your way to work, on vacation or don’t want to spend the night staring at the TV, all you need is your phone, ideally headphones. The English word podcast comes from a combination of the words iPod and broadcast, there is no established equivalent in the Czech language. Novinky has also been publishing podcasts since last year.

Which series dubs Bohdan Tůma enjoys the most right now, but also whether he keeps his voice or the pseudonyms Roman Novotný and Leopold Kohák, one of the most important Czech dubs reveal to Richard Wágner in a new episode of V czech language podcast.

Did you enjoy interviews with Czech actors and voiceovers? Would you like to see one of them on camera? Then write about the interview via email to the address richard.wagner@novinky.cz and put it in the subject line “In the Czech version”.
