Back to the future-VHS makes record sales

The film sold for NOK 750,000 at an auction. This is record sales for VHS tapes, reports CNN. The buyer is an unnamed collector in New York.

The item for sale is owned by actor Tom Wilson, who played the bully Biff Tanna in the ’80s classic.

Wilson originally put the film up for sale on eBay, along with several other VHS films, but deleted the listing when he was overwhelmed by the questions. His great interest led him to contact the auction house Heritage Auctions in Dallas in the state of Texas to make a sale there.

The Wilson collection also includes a sealed VHS edition of “Back to the Future 2”, which costs over NOK 160,000, “Back to the Future 3”, which retails for about NOK 140,000, as well as the Back to the Future trilogy from 1990, which is priced at NOK 100,000.

A total of 260 VHS films were sold at the auction. They attracted 598 bidders worldwide and made a total of NOK 5.8 million in what is said to be the first VHS auction of its kind.

In recent years, VHS films have become popular among collectors.

– We don’t know what will happen. No one had ever done this before, and it was amazing to have such success, says Joe Maddalena at Heritage Auctions.
