Confederacja and PSL complain after report presentation

This is the introduction of the election campaign and other attempts to consolidate patriotic voters, but also not, as some of the opposition say, that nothing can be recovered from Germany at all – this is how Confederate representatives rated the report on Poland’s war losses presented on Thursday.

Poland’s losses as a result of the war unleashed by Germany amounted to PLN 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million – announced in the report on losses during World War II presented Thursday at the Royal Palace in Warsaw. Poland’s compensation claims against Germany have not expired and have not yet expired, the report authors noted.

Confederate lawmaker Krzysztof Tuduj pointed out during a press conference in the Sejm that the publication of the report has been going on for seven years, and Law and Justice “every year during the holiday season heats up this topic”, announcing that after calculating war losses , the process of pursuing these claims will begin.

However, he judged that on Thursday no information was provided on “how we will claim this amount”, and he considered the PiS politician’s speech at the Royal Castle a “serious declaration of an announcement of a decision and nothing more”. He considered it doubtful that Germany would “follow the speech of PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński.”

First of all, we do not have the support of international opinion in this regard, and this is where we must start and provide this support in order to successfully pursue this claim in the international arena.

– assess the representative. He added that it was also unknown when the claim would be formally formulated against the German state and when negotiations would begin. In such a situation – as Tuduj sums it up – “it should be seen as a prelude to election campaigns and other attempts to consolidate patriotic voters.”

In turn, former MP, lawyer Jacek Wilk argues that three basic elements are needed to fulfill the claim, of which only the first – “historical and moral reasons” – is considered “unquestionably on the Polish side”. On the other hand, “legal reasons”, according to him, “are very complicated and difficult”.

Poland ignored this claim at least in part in 1953. Of course, disputes between lawyers continued on this topic. But surely this at least a partial abandonment has occurred. Moreover, in the early 1990s, when Poland was one of the countries that agreed to Germany’s incorporation, we missed the opportunity to raise this issue. As the Polish side, we remain silent about it, so the situation is complicated too

Wolf said.

The lawyer also cited “political power and efficiency in the international arena” as a third condition for the realization of the claim. Meanwhile, as he puts it – “at this very moment, when the PiS government is leading Poland into isolation, isolation, the fact that we only have enemies around and we’re actually just relying on an exotic alliance with the United States.”

The means to enforce these types of claims are very, very low

Wolf said.

In conclusion, the lawyer stated that we are dealing with a situation where the PiS government “cheats and deceives voters that it can recover these funds”. But – he argues – it is not, as previous opposition leaders assumed, that “there is nothing to recover from at all”.

It is not like that. The Confederation as a party of common sense says what it should be. As rightly noted by prof. Antoni Dudek (member of the Council of the National Memorial Institute 2010-2016), it is necessary to appoint a special international commission that will develop a methodology for estimating losses in Poland during World War II as a result of hostilities by the German parties, and based on the results of this report, lobby, act to the German side so that the German opinion would be convinced that what had been paid to Poland was definitely not enough.

Wolf said. In his opinion, it would be realistic to get from Germany, for example, funds for the Polish-German Reconciliation Foundation.

Tomasz Grabarczyk, director of the press office of the Confederation, pointed out the need to tell the whole world about World War II from a Polish perspective, about what happened to Poland in 1939-1945 and what the German occupation of Poland was like.

In his opinion, Poland should finance related documentaries, fictional films or TV series, because – as he noted – “American university students said that World War II began in December 1941 with the (Japanese) attack on the American fleet and aviation base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.” He also recalled that the world was still confusing the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (1943) with the Warsaw Uprising (1944).

The Western world did not know the fate of Poland and Poland in those years, and this was also a major failure of Poland’s 30 years of historical policy, as well as the failure and discrediting of historical policy by PiS

– rated Grabarczyk.

Kosiniak-Kamysz: The PiS government talks a lot about reparations and does nothing

I want Poland to receive compensation for World War II from Germany, but the PiS government talks a lot about reparations, and hasn’t done anything yet, the head of the PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, told PAP. According to him, the rulers are not ready to discuss this issue, “they are just doing a political birth scene.”

On Thursday, at the Royal Palace in Warsaw, a report on the losses suffered by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during World War II was presented. It was reported that Poland’s total loss was PLN 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million, which amounted to USD 1 trillion 532 billion 170 million.

When asked by PAP about this report, PSL leaders asked what the Law and Justice government had done in this regard over the past seven years.

Is he just talking and this is the next stage of propaganda and talking about it? And why doesn’t he reach for the money on the table, it’s money from the European Union

– said Kosiniak-Kamysz.

I really want Poland to have more money, also to get compensation for World War II, only the PiS government is cheating on this, because it just talks a lot and does nothing

– assess the head of the farmer.

I would like to see documents proving that since 2006, when Jarosław Kaczyński was prime minister, and now since 2015, what the PiS government did to get at least one euro, because I haven’t seen any reparations

– added.

When asked whether, in his opinion, Poland was entitled to money for war losses from Germany, the PSL leader replied that he believed that “every money that Poland was going to get was necessary”.

It’s just that I don’t want to take part in the birth scene that the rulers are holding today, because I don’t think they are fully prepared for the discussion and are only doing it for marketing and political purposes, and they are not achieving the goal.

– said the PSL leader.

Report on reparations prepared by the Parliamentary Team for Estimates of Compensation Due to Poland from Germany for Damage Caused During World War II, operating during the previous parliamentary term – from September 2017. The team led by PiS MP Arkadiusz Mularczyk prepared a report on Poland’s losses due to the World War II and the amount of compensation for Poland from Germany. About 30 scientists – historians, economists, property appraisers – and 10 reviewers worked on the report.

In late July, the head of PiS, Jarosław Kaczyński, admitted in an interview with PAP that the struggle for money from our western neighbor may take years.

Maybe an entire generation will pass – I may not live to see it, but you have to start sometime

– said Kaczyński.

He also stated that it was Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki who proposed that the first part of the reparations report be published on the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. He added that this will be the most important volume, and there are also plans for more.

We want to publish it in several foreign languages, because this is also to find out what is really going on in Poland, because in various conversations with politicians from the West, I realized that this knowledge is less than minimal.

– said the head of PIS. After the publication of the report, he added, “further steps will be taken in the right order and according to plan”.

This will be a major operation. I hope it will bring results over time, although I am aware that this is a long time, maybe even an entire generation will pass – I may not live to see it, but you should start sometime. We must not give up, because there is no reason why we should still think of ourselves as people who can be treated worse than others

– said Kaczynski.
