Moss, News | Opening the world's largest charging point in Moss

This charging station has the same number of charging points as – and is more modern than – the charging station that opened at Danmarks Plass in Bergen last spring.

295 years after Moss gained town status, it was founded based on the businesses that grew up around Mossefossen – power from the same waterfall that pumped into the cars at Ladetorget.

Pressing the start button

Mayor Tage Pettersen praised the city of Moss for being a pioneering city in green and environmentally friendly investments. He didn't cut the cord, but instead pressed the charging button as he opened Ladetorget in Kirketorget.

The municipality is forward-looking

Leader Olav Moe of the transport, environment and climate committee in the municipality of Østfold followed up on the mayor's words:

– The Municipality of Moss has had the honor of being the largest charging station in the world. Moss is very forward-looking and energetic in his environmental efforts. And the county gets a lot of bang for the buck on the 100,000 kroner we spend here, Moe said.

Fortum's Jan Haugen Ihle was on hand and presented electric taxi owner André Wauthier at Taxi 3 with a charging chip for 5,000 kilometers of free charging.

– Wauthier was the first taxi owner in Østfold to have an electric car. Fortum will also give the next two electric taxi owners in Østfold 5,000 kilometers of free charging, and the next five owners after that will get 2,500 kilometers of free charging, Ihle is interested.

A simple choice

– Very nice gift. And the offer for a further seven cars gives taxi owners in Østfold an extra reason to choose eco-friendly when buying a new car, says Wauthier.

The 27-year-old drove for five years for Halden Taxi. Three months ago he was about to start a 3 Taxi ride in Moss and replace his Toyota Prius. The choice fell on the Tesla Model S. Electric car. Because:

– It was the right choice!

– Do you lose valuable working time when you stand and do exercises?

– Yes, but I do most of my charging at home, said Wauthier, who missed the opportunity to charge in Moss. Until now.
