News, TV | “Powerwomen Norway” received strong criticism: – When women take their place in the media, there are often debates

(Nettavisen) Viaplay’s new documentary series doesn’t come days after its release before a very strong response is expected from the media.

In season 1 of the concept taken from Sweden, you gain a deeper insight into the lives of Leah Behn, Isabelle Ringnes, Ingeborg Heldal, Iman Althoughni and Anita Krohn Traaseth, the latter from Sandefjord.

Aftenposten rolls the dice 2 and believes that “Powerwomen Norway” is involved in “everything except the exercise of power”. It appears in a review that features “hollow and smooth polished” in its title.

– Healthy and important

Ringnes believed that the snappy reception was as expected.

– When women take their place in the media, there are often debates. Standing up for criticism is another side of the privilege you get by having the opportunity to talk about your fan affairs and projects across multiple channels. “As long as we try to keep arguing about this issue and not hate someone, I think it’s healthy and important to have a critical debate,” he told Nettavisen.

Ringnes believes that some of the criticism appears to have been prompted by the name of the series, which many, including himself, take for granted.

– But if one wants to have this label first, the term “Powerwoman” means to me a woman who stands confidently in herself, dares to make the right choice for her, is ambitious and wise in her field, both to others and to herself, she said and added:

– If you stick your head in all the country buses and signs, you can almost hope that they will be cut down. His strength lies in keeping him high and not taking himself too seriously.

However, Ringnes stressed that life goes on and that there are “more important things in the world than this”.

– It’s a shame to be reduced to that

Dagens Næringsliv himself believes that the five female celebrities received a high level of personal branding by participating in the series, “something Viaplay exploits professionally”.

They further wrote in their comments that “Powerwomen” are only about five celebrities who “live away from attention”, but no more than that. Ringnes thought this was a pathetic formulation.

– It is a pity that our profession and projects are reduced to that. We are five women with different experiences, professions and backgrounds who have something in common so we are not afraid to use our voices for issues we believe in. Be it diversity, technology, management or creativity, he believes.

The businesswoman took it as a compliment that DN and Aftenposten had taken the time to review the series.

– Of course it would be nice if they liked the series, but I appreciate that they don’t. At the same time, it is important to remember that reviewers represent one perspective, and seldom represent everyone.

– A bit like criticizing a skirt

Aftenposten claims in its review that “Powerwomen Norge” in shape and appearance is most reminiscent of the reality show “Bloggerne”, which has been running on TV 2 since 2014.

– You don’t think the series has missed the mark?

– I am very proud of the team who have worked on the series at Fremantle and Viaplay and have confidence that the results will be great. It’s a good collaboration and I hope the final product will reflect that, there are still many episodes to look forward to, answered Ringnes

Furthermore, Ringnes believes that reviewers wanted a different kind of series, which is sadly difficult to do.

– It’s like criticizing a skirt for not being pants. It’s hard to get everyone on board, but it’s nice to see that there are so many people who love the series too.

Viaplay itself reacted with devastating composure.

– We see that a series about women will be up for debate in 2022. What reviewers might think about “Powerwomen Norway” should be up to them, and not something we want to comment on. Viewers will definitely make their own decisions about the series, program editor at Viaplay, Jonas Møller, told Nettavisen.
