Opel made the student’s proposal a reality. The Rocks E-Xtreme is a strange train

Opel launched the Rocks-e electric car in August 2021 under the name Citroën Ami, and at the time the automaker called the car one of the first electric cars to deliver sustainable urban mobility.

Opel went even further last year and the e-Rocks also got a cargo version. And now we even got an off-road version.

However, the Rocks e-Xtreme student concept is a one-off prototype that will not go into production. The automaker created it based on a bold design by design student Lukas Wenzhöfer, who won the #OpelDesignHack competition. The young designer’s plan is to take the e-Rocks model to the extreme and turn it into an off-road vehicle, fun and charming.

Compared to the standard version, this concept has wider wheel arches, a tubular frame around the cabin, and tires that protrude from under the cabin. The car also has a new suspension, offering higher ground clearance and, last but not least, a giant rear wing. An interesting fact is that the spoiler comes from the Vectra GTS V8 model, a DTM racing roadster with a four-liter V8 engine.

“Off-road capability enhances the feeling of freedom to drive to any destination. And the increased sportiness promises extra driving pleasure, showing that electromobility is more than just a sensible solution,” explains designer Wenzhöfer.

The car, among other things, gets a new front fascia with LED headlights and Opel logo. The entire front panel and fenders were made with a 3D printer, and the designer added additional LED lights to the roof of the car. Not a single mechanical improvement has been mentioned, so it is assumed that the car still uses a 5.5 kWh battery with a range of 75 kilometers and an 8 horsepower electric motor.
