Sports president removes Facebook video from Norwegian Cup – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

On August 6, the sports president published a post on Facebook, in which he shared several photos and a video from the Norwegian Cup.

In addition to the Personal Protection Act, which Becomes enforced by the governing authorities, the Norwegian Sports Confederation (NIF) agrees new guidelines for flow sports for children and youth. The guidelines, which went into effect at the end of June, were adopted by the sports council.

It states, among other things, that “it should not be saved or Becomes distribute sports films through social media and other open channels».

A few days after Kjøll published the video, it was taken down. The sports president claimed to NRK that the video clip was filmed “at a good distance from the athletes playing soccer so the children could not be recognized».

In “border states”

NIF stated that the sports president was busy with Arendalsuka and was therefore unavailable for an interview with NRK. Therefore, Kjøll has provided a written answer through the sports association.

– When I learned that the small video clip may still exist in border countries within the framework of current legislation, especially privacy regulations, I chose to remove the video, Kjøll said in a statement.

NRK has seen screenshots of the video. The sports president was apparently feet away when he filmed the boys.

How could the sports president determine that the children were unidentifiable?

It is based on self-assessment. Because I knew the content might be in a bordering country, I chose to remove the video clip immediately, said Kjøll.

The sports president said he did not get approval before publication because he thought the athletes could not be identified.

The NIF guidelines state, among other things: “This may not be stored or Becomes distribute sports films using social media and other open channels.” Isn’t publishing on Facebook a violation of these guidelines?

Yes, as long as the children can be identified, and consent has not been obtained, this will be a violation of the guidelines, said the sport’s president.

– Boom

NRK sports commentator Jan Petter Saltvedt reacted to the publication of the video, and he thought it showed the need for a decision made by the sports board regarding new guidelines in this area.

Therefore, he also believes that the sports president should stand out as a better example of the guidelines he himself gave in June.

Here, the sports president has failed and failed to understand or was not interested enough in his own decisions, says Saltvedt.

If this is a violation of the guidelines, how big is the actual violation?

Everyone can get carried away, and someone will be carried away by the joy of sport, by the children and by the enthusiasm that exists. It was precisely then that one had to come to a realization that Berit Kjøll, along with a few others, clearly did not. The difference between him and others is that it is part of his presidential responsibility to lead by example, said Saltvedt.

– Be extra aware

The NIF itself stated that the new guidelines “have been established as a result of the clear desire on the part of sport and some other actors in society to tighten current practices, whereby it appears that children and young people are increasingly exposed to uncontrolled filmmaking and distribution, far under the age group”.

The Norwegian Cup streams matches for children aged 15 and over, and in the final some matches for children aged 13-14 are broadcast in final A.

General Secretary Pål Trælvik informed NRK that all streaming teams have received filming and publication, and all teams have been asked if they have any objections to filming/photos.

“The Ekebergsletta is a public venue, and the Norwegian Cup is a public event. Photos and videos will be taken during the event, but the Norwegian Cup follows current privacy laws in Norway, and in addition sports guidelines with respect to photos and videos”, said the Norwegian Cup website.

The sports president said he had no idea how old the children referred to in the video were.

It is of course very important that we all realize this and not post pictures and videos from the event that are recognizable to children. Otherwise, the whole point of the new guidelines on streaming kids in sports is that we have to get some control over filmmaking and distribution running out of control, Kjøll said in a statement.

“This is certainly something I will also be aware of when I visit my next sporting event,” he added.
