The Beginning of the World Economic Forum. President Andrzej Duda will be in Davos – News

The discussion in the forum which will last until Friday will discuss economic challenges, such as avoiding a global recession, and geopolitics, including the war in Ukraine. The climate crisis will also be an important topic of debate.

Top level delegation

Organizers of the World Economic Forum are expecting the arrival of more than 50 heads of state or government, the expected total is more than 2.7 thousand. representative of the political elite. As well as the Polish president, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission Chair Ursula von der Leyen, South Korean President Jun Suk-jeol, NATO head Jens Stoltenberg and John Kerry, US presidential special envoy on climate, also participated.

The Russian representative will not be coming to Davos, while as for China, the organizers of the World Economic Forum have announced the presence of a “high-level” delegation. In addition, the largest participation of representatives of the business world in history is also expected – more than 1.5 thousand. people from 700 entities. The group will include more than 600 heads of large companies and corporations.

– We see a variety of political, economic and social forces that are causing increasing fragmentation at the global and national levels. To address the root causes of this erosion of trust, we need to strengthen cooperation between governments and the business sector, creating the conditions for a strong and sustainable economic recovery, said Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum.

Polish house in Davos

Davos is also a series of initiatives organized on the margins of the forum. From the point of view of our country, an important meeting place in the Alpine resort is the Polish House, where a number of meetings and discussion panels are planned from Tuesday to Thursday. There will be e.g. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister and head of MAP Jacek Sasin, Minister of Finance Magdalena Rzeczkowska, as well as heads of major Polish and foreign companies.

The attention of international opinion will be focused on the House of Ukraine. Its organizers announced a special online interview with President Volodymyr Zelensky and the opening of two exhibitions – dedicated to the liberated Kherson and Russia’s war crimes. President Andrzej Duda will take part in the inauguration of this second exhibition.

According to Reuters, 5,000 people will help ensure security in Davos. The Swiss army supports the local police. The no-fly zone will be secured with air force fighter jets circling over the resort.

After a lull caused by pandemic restrictions, the World Economic Forum returned to its traditional January date.
