The Norwegian Sports Confederation launched a sustainability strategy

– A lot of good work has been done to promote sustainability in Norwegian sport. This sustainability strategy will help raise awareness of the positive effects of sport, as well as address and reduce our negative impact on people and the environment, says sports president Berit Kjøll.

Five strategic focus areas
Sport impacts all 17 UN sustainability goals. NIF’s sustainability strategy has been developed in collaboration with competency house PwC, with support from a resource group for sustainability in sport and several external professional advisers. The strategy highlights five strategic focus areas where we have a significant impact on society and the environment:

  1. Lifelong sports enjoyment and healthy exercise
  2. Sport is inclusive, diverse and equal
  3. Ethical and future-oriented development
  4. Responsible use of resources in sport
  5. Green sports arena

Sports enjoyment for everyone, including future generations
In November this year, the Norwegian Sports Confederation’s new sustainability strategy was adopted by the sports council, and on Monday 12 December, it was launched aboard the electric ship MS Brisen during a grand celebration in the Oslo Fjord. Strategy is translated into actions and actions through planning and other action plans.

– Sport is and should be an important contributor to a sustainable society. We will create sporting joy for everyone – including future generations. That’s why we want to take the lead in the work to develop green and climate-friendly sporting events in the future, said Kjøll.
