The world’s largest new cruise ship sets sail for the first time

The 362 meter long ship covered about 1,550 nautical miles, which is about 2,870 kilometers, during its first four days at sea, the Daily Mail website explains. The goal is to test whether the structure is durable. The ship underwent about forty tests and a number of inspections.

About 500 people participated in the test, the completion of the test cruise symbolizes an important milestone for the world’s largest cruise ship. Likewise for Royal Caribbean owning the ship, this is already the fifth addition to the Oasis class, which also includes the former world’s largest cruise liners such as Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas.

Its maiden voyage with its first passengers awaits next year’s “miracle of the sea,” when it first sails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the Caribbean, before also visiting Europe in May. In seven days, passengers will travel through the Mediterranean Sea, from Barcelona and Rome to Mallorca or the Italian island of Capri.

It can accommodate almost seven thousand passengers

Royal Caribbean promises new entertainment options for families and other travelers, including the world’s tallest slide or a garden with living plants.

“The number of orders for our ships returning to the United States and Europe is very significant. It’s thrilling to us that half of our fleet is back in business,” said company boss Michael Bayley, adding that people can prepare for the latest additions. “The magic will shine as the newest wonder of the Caribbean and Mediterranean,” Bayley added.

The giant ship is 362 meters long and 64 meters wide. It can accommodate 6,988 passengers and 2,300 crew members. It can cruise at a speed of 22 knots, which is roughly 40 kilometers per hour.
