Ukrainian air defenses shot down 40 of the 45 drones Russia used to attack Kiev and other regions of Ukraine on the night of Saturday into Sunday. As reported by the Air Force, Russia launched drones from occupied Crimea.

Oblasts in central Ukraine were attacked: Kiev, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr and Cherkasy, as well as oblasts located further south: Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as southern oblasts: Odessa, Mykolaiv and Kherson. Anti-aircraft defenses destroyed 40 Shahed-type drones, the Ukrainian army announced via Telegram.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, fragments of a crashed drone caused a fire that left one person injured, regional authorities reported, cited by the Ukrinform news agency.

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, an anti-aircraft alert was announced in Kiev and other regions.

We urge residents in the area to remain in shelters until the air alarm is sounded

– read local military authority announcements.

According to Ukrainian media, Shahed's drone flew into the Kiev region from southern Ukraine.

Aircraft alerts were also announced in central and southern regions of Ukraine. Explosions were heard in the Dnieper and Mykolaiv.

00:01 Situation in Avdiivka

“The initiative on the front lines remains in the hands of the Russian armed forces. They weren't very successful, but they made some small changes. “The situation in Avdiivka is relatively critical, but Ukraine's defenses are holding out,” said Colonel Tarmo Kundla from the Estonian Army General Staff, quoted by the Ukraińska Pravda website, Saturday.

Kundla noted that Russia's operational and tactical tasks remain unfulfilled as Ukraine's defenses remain in place and Ukraine continues to operate on Russian territory.

The officer predicted that in the coming weeks, Russian forces will launch an offensive into Ukrainian territory on the border of Russia's Belgorod Oblast and Ukraine's Kharkov Oblast to lure Ukrainian units there and lure them away from the Kupany front.

The Donetsk Front remains the main direction of the Russian army's offensive. Heavy fighting continued near Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Donetsk.

Kundla explained that Russian troops were advancing in the Avdiivka region, but Ukrainian supply lines had not been cut.

The situation is quite critical from Ukraine's perspective, but fighting continues

– he says.

According to him, the intensity of Russian operations on the Zaporizhia and Kherson fronts is much more moderate, and Russia has not achieved any success there. There is also a Ukrainian bridge on the left bank of the Dnieper in Kherson Oblast.

According to Kundla, the change of Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not bring any changes on the front line in the near future.

In turn, “the upcoming presidential elections in Russia will influence the efforts of both parties.” Russia will try to achieve a tactical victory – “albeit small, but real.”

Earlier on Saturday, British military intelligence noted that Ukraine's latest attack on Belbek airport in Russian-occupied Crimea had further reduced Russian air power.
