The German president rejected Poland’s claim for reparations. Remove Steinmeier position

On Monday, October 3, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note on war reparations for our country from Germany. Now the documents will be handed over to the German side.

Warsaw’s actions in this regard were commented on Tuesday by the head of German diplomacy Annalena Baerbock, who visited our country. The politician, at a press conference with the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the position of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany put forward earlier, rejecting Poland’s demands. Now President Steinmeier has made a similar statement.

The German president met Andrzej Duda today in Malta.

– The federal government emphatically replied that the issue of reparations is not at all open at this time. Germany recognizes its historical responsibility and we are grateful that Poland has also reached out and joined the reconciliation process that has been successful for decades. And that’s why I would be pleading to continue the good-neighbor relations we have built with Poland in recent decades, said Frank Walter Steinmeier.

The President emphasized that he would repeat the position of the German government in this regard.

Report on repairs

Let us recall that in mid-September this year, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, by a vote of 418 MPs, supported a resolution on reparations for Poland for losses incurred during World War II.

Earlier, reports on the losses suffered by our country as a result of the German aggression and occupation in 1939-1945 were presented at a ceremony at the Royal Palace in Warsaw. The team led by Deputy PiS Arkadiusz Mularczyk estimated Poland’s losses at PLN 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million.
