Big weather contrasts – Marit 69 degrees north:

– They’re lining up to visit us, this low pressure. So we know where we live, said Marit Sunde (74) by phone from Andøya to Dagbladet journalists at Hasle in Oslo.

He has lived for 57 years on Norway’s tenth largest island, located 69 degrees north, and is therefore used to snowfall in May.

However, it’s not his two-year-old robotic lawn mower.

On Friday, he sampled the year’s first Sunde lawn.

However, the encounter with the grass was short-lived; on Saturday morning the green lawn was covered in white flakes.

A photo taken by the 74-year-old shows the tracks a lawnmower has left in the snow.

– Now I wonder if we should change to winter tires and get an engine heater for the robotic lawn mower, he joked.

Meteorologists warn

Snowfall as expected.

On Friday, the Meteorological Institute announced a big difference in weather over the Whitsun weekend: Up to 20 degrees in parts of southern Norway, and sleet and snow in parts of northern Norway.

– If people have switched to summer tires, I recommend switching to winter tires if you are going out for a ride, warns meteorologist Iselin Skjervagen.

– Don’t drive out the southerners

Sunde is now wondering whether Husqvarna’s robotic lawn mower also needs a tire change.

He emphasized that he had not checked the lawn.

– We’ll see if it can do anything. He’ll probably get stuck on the slope, so I guess we should get out and help.

Sunde was originally from Flekkefjord in Agder, but moved to Andøya in 1966. The weather didn’t scare him:

For those southerners who might shiver just from looking at the weather forecast for northern Norway, the 74-year-old has the following message:

– It’s not boring here. We have nature to back up, and lots of amazing, compassionate, and friendly people.

Husqvarna: Lots of suggestions

Husqvarna received many good proposals for further development of our robotic lawn mower, according to marketing manager Ellen Lunde Emilsen.

– So it’s clear that people are satisfied and see more usage areas. From snow plows to fertilizer spreaders. Some dress our lawn mowers in unique designs.

He says that last year they introduced a function that lets some trimmers sing the birthday song on command.

– They have several areas of use, but for snow conditions a weather timer and frost sensor are probably just the thing, for now. If you have one, however, you’ll avoid getting your mower out on the street and are better off staying at the charging station until “clear weather,” concludes Emilsen.
