Technical problems caused chaos and delays at the airport on Friday morning. Among other things, passengers who were supposed to take an early morning flight to Oslo or a 06.00 departure with Widerøe had to endure a lot of waiting.

Airport manager Ivar Helsing Schøen was able to confirm before 10:00 am that the problem had been resolved and all delayed passengers had left.

– We hope to receive another delay during the day. Now all of our systems are up and running again, and traffic is flowing as it should.

Long queue

Several tipsters reported to iTromsø that there were long lines and a tendency towards chaos at the airport on Friday morning.

– There were long queues, and no information, Harald Melseth told iTromsø.

He arrived at the airport as a traveler around 5:30 a.m., and was shocked by the chaos that greeted him.

– The line is all the way to the front door, Melseth said.

– And we knew nothing then and there, he continued.

No information

He said that none of the ticket machines were working.

– There is one person who receives all the baggage manually, says Melseth.

When iTromsø spoke to him Friday morning, he had just gone through security.

He said a message came over the airport’s loudspeaker just before iTromsø contacted him.

– There must have been a power outage last night, we found out when we hit the road, said Melseth, who was on his way to Oslo for a weekend trip.

He reacted to the fact that it took a long time for travelers to receive information about the matter.

AIRPORT: Harald Melseth is finally on the road, but his flight is delayed.

Even though her flight was now delayed, she was relieved to have made it through the worst of the queue chaos.

– Now it seems to work, said Melseth.

Expect delays

Airport manager Ivar Helsing Schrøen confirmed a power outage to iTromsø.

– There was a power outage in the early hours of the morning for unknown reasons, and we think it involved reconnecting the transformer station, Schrøen told iTromsø.

– This then led to a power outage, so our emergency power solution has been working for some time, but for some unknown reason also failed. Then our third solution is also problematic, he continued.

Schrøen said he didn’t have a full picture of the details yet, but said the power was back on and they were working to get traffic out of the airport.

– We are restarting the system, said Schrøen and added that travelers are bound to experience some delays in the coming hours.

– You have to count on it. The first flight was supposed to leave at 06:00, said Schrøen, adding that they hoped to handle another delay in the morning.

He didn’t know exactly when the power outage first occurred.
