South Korea: North Korea has fired three ballistic missiles

– North Korea has fired an unidentified ballistic missile towards the East Sea, said the first statement from South Korea’s defense. They have so far not disclosed the type of rocket or how long it will have a range.

In a later statement, the defense said that two short-range rockets had also been launched from the Sunan area of the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, according to Reuters.

The first rocket is said to have been fired seaward from North Korea’s east coast, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported. The Japanese coast guard also said that North Korea had fired what may have been a ballistic missile.

The launch was the latest in a long series by North Korea this year, including a test launch of a long-range missile apparently equipped with the country’s latest technology in November.

The latest launches come after the US on Tuesday sent bombers capable of being equipped with nuclear weapons, as well as advanced fighter jets, to the Korean Peninsula in connection with military exercises with South Korea.

Hours before Friday’s launch, the United States said North Korea had supplied Russian mercenary company Wagner with weapons for use in Ukraine, in violation of UN resolutions.
